Rocham School

We originally visited this school in Solukhumbu in March 2014 and were immediately impressed by the Headmasters gentle manner and respect from both the students and villagers towards him.  It was clear that once again a little TLC was all this school needed and so we agreed to work alongside the School Management Committee and villagers to help where we could. The village was aware that this could be a lengthy process as we knew we needed to raise the funds ourselves in order to fund this work. Then in the earthquake in April 2015 unfortunately one of the buildings became badly damaged, so our focus changed to helping to get a safe environment for the children to learn in.  In November 2017, after numerous trips back to the village with various fundraisers (including a team that climbed Mera Peak and Island Peak) we were able to complete the handover of phase one of our work with them – a seismically safe 4 classroom building and new toilet block.

In October 2018 after a successful application to the St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation, work started on phase two which involved demolition of the old unsafe building and construction of a new (and again seismically safe) building holding 3 further rooms for the school to use.   This should be complete by March 2019 when we will officially hand this over to the School Management Committee.
